- Reuben Samuel, step-father of Frank & Jesse James dies
March 2, 1882
- From St. Joesph, Missouri, Jesse sends a letter to J.D. Calhoun of Nebraska, inquiring to buy a farm.
It is signed "Thomas Howard"
March 3, 1889
- Susan James Parmer, sister of Frank & Jesse, dies
March 6, 1882
- George Shepard admits he made up a story about him killing Jesse James
in an effort to collect the reward money.
March 11, 1874
- Undercover Pinkerton detective, John Whicher, is killed by a gang of men, believed to been led by
Jesse James after the gang stopped him on the road to the James farm, where he had hoped to secure work
in an effort to capture the boys. The gang took Whicher across the Missouri river from Clay to
Jackson County, Missouri, where his body was found.
March 11, 1881
- Government Paymaster robbed near Muscle Shoals, Alabama of $5,200. Jesse James believed to have been
involved.
March 15, 1934
- John Samuel, half-brother of Frank & Jesse, dies
March 20, 1868
- James-Younger gang reportedly robs the Russelville, Kentucky Bank of $14,000
March 26, 1807
- John James and Mary Polly Poor (Frank & Jesse's grandparents) are married in Goochland County, Kentucky
March 26, 1951
- Jesse E. James, son of Jesse & Zee James, dies in California
